How long have you been practicing Yoga?
My sister brought me to my first Yoga class about 16 years ago.
What does Yoga mean to you?
To me, Yoga is a beautiful, timeless practice that allows us to deeply connect with ourselves on so many levels. It lays out a path for healthy, compassionate and conscious living if you take it on fully, as a way of life.
What is one gift that Yoga has given you or brought to your life?
Yoga has helped me find freedom and healing within my physical body. I was injured in a serious accident in 2003, and my Yoga practice helped me to heal myself and find strength + balance again, on a physical level. It's also my spiritual practice. As a kid, I wasn't really drawn to religion or spirituality. Learning about Yoga philosophy and mythology sparked this interest in me for the first time, and started me on a path of finding a deeper connection to myself, a better understanding of my mind and tendencies, and just a desire to inquire + seek a spiritual experience within this lifetime.
What inspires you?
My son. He inspires me to be the brightest, fullest version of myself. The fact that he's always watching me really asks me to reflect on everything that I do and the example I'm setting for him. He's a sweet, little reminder so be graceful, kind and present in all that I do.
What do you love about teaching and practicing at Yoga Grace?
I love our community. We are so blessed to have such passionate, loving teachers sharing their wisdom with us, and such amazing students who are so dedicated to learning and their practice. We're truly a family, all learning, growing and practicing alongside each other! My Yoga family has been such a gift to me and I'm so happy that we're creating that here in Qualicum.
What would you say to someone who is wanting to try Yoga for the very first time?
Have fun with it! Being a beginner at something is such a great reminder to approach life with playful, curious + child-like wonder. Also, breathe! You'll discover that it's your connection to something so beautiful.
