TEACHER FEATURE: CHITO

How long have you been practicing Yoga?
I’ve been practicing since 2005. My first yoga experience was in my home country of Japan. It was at a hot yoga studio which doubled as a hot spring! It was so relaxing and I met a teacher who inspired me a lot. I went there almost every day.

What does Yoga mean to you?
Yoga is my life-long journey to a becoming a better person. Yoga helps keeps me in a state of perpetual learning and growth. Through Yoga, I feel I can connect with others and also bring myself closer to a state of inner peace. Before I began practicing yoga, I played golf. I enjoyed the game and was not too bad at it considering I was only a casual player. When I started practicing Yoga, I could play golf better than before! I don’t play now in Canada, so if you want to play golf with me, please let me know!

What is one gift that Yoga has given you or brought to your life?
A clear mind, kindness towards others and a state of calmness. When I do Yoga, I always find balance. I never feel regretful after practicing.

What inspires you?
Everyone whom I’ve met at Yoga Grace. I love seeing them in class - their poses are growing and they are sharing their energy with me and others. Those things always inspire me to do better. I want to practice Yoga every day!

What do you love about teaching and practicing at Yoga Grace?
I LOVE the people who I’ve met at the studio and the teachers. Everyone is amazing, friendly and warm.

What would you say to someone who is wanting to try Yoga for the very first time?
Try different types of Yoga. There are many different styles of practice. Some focus on our body, others are more spiritual. If you don’t like your very first Yoga experience, that’s ok, try something different. You might find one you love!
